Japan, U.S. reach framework trade pact

Japanese business newspaper Nikkei said Saturday that the USA and Japan had reached a wide trade deal, and Tokyo made allowances in agriculture, but this is not visible in Washington about cars.

US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Economy Secretary Toshimitsu Motegi came to terms in Washington on Friday when Tokyo cut rates for beef in the United States, but Washington kept rates for Japanese cars, Nikkei said.

The outcomes of the Lighthizer-Motegi negotiations are going to be released at a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which is anticipated Sunday on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Biarritz, France, said Nikkei.

A message appeared soon after Motegi told reporters in Washington that he and Lighthizer had made great advancement.
