Review: 2019 Lexus GS F

The 2019 Lexus GS F is similar to John Wick's PG-13 slice. Despite being only three years old, the GS F is operating on the design of the latest generation Lexus, preceding the more subtle and sinister appearance of modern designs such as the LC and LS. It’s not bad in itself - the sides are not cluttered with meaningless lines of characters, and the aggression that comes from the notch of the front wing along with some keen folds on the bonnet is really cool. Meanwhile, the bumper generates a clumsy front overhang. It looks good, but not fresh.

Meanwhile, the Lexus GS F is now the second car to grab the attention of your mail carrier, in part because of its extraordinary matte paint. In this case, it is included in the 10th Anniversary Edition package worth $ 5,000. This particular GS F, restricted to only 100 units, gets the above mentioned matte gray paint, 19-inch black BBS wheels and blue Brembo brake calipers. The package itself is definitely particular, and it will turn its head in a way that the GS F regular does not.

The inner design is rather respectable. In the second row there is a lot of area, and head restraints with an adjustable backrest increase passenger comfort. The waistline is a little high. At the back, the trunk is going to gobble up almost everything - its capacity of 14.1 cubic feet exceeds the Mercedes E-Class by nearly a cubic meter.

The 5.0-liter eight-cylinder engine may not correspond to the strength that the big boys AMG and Ms put down, offering only 467 horsepower and 389 lb-ft of torsion. However, as everything else has turbochargers, the GS F has the appeal of an old school that its competitors cannot correspond to. The V8 is responsive and happy to live high on the tachometer - as it needs to, as the maximum torque is not reached up to 4800 rpm.

Adaptive shock absorbers provide a convenient ride in Comfort mode, in spite of the fact that they would be better without the thin (255/35 front, 275/35 rear) Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires from the anniversary package. In the Sport mode, the suspension is enhanced and creates the sense of communication that you can expect from a car of this caliber. The steering is direct and quite heavy, but with a low level of feedback.

The EPA estimates this V8 at 16 mpg city and highway at 24 mpg, which puts the GS F only 1-2 mpg behind the 2019 BMW M550i. Nevertheless, the M550i also has turbochargers and two extra drive wheels, so perhaps Lexus could be better, taking into account its comparative lack of sophisticated gearbox technology.

The $ 900 color head-up display is the right size and suggests data on speed limits, current speed and tachometer. The 17-speaker Mark Levinson speaker mechanism costs $ 1,380 and costs every penny, offering some of the best audio signals in the industry. The infotainment mechanism also provides integration of Alexa and other applications, but the latter needs an individual application on any phone connected to a USB port.
